Ag Technology (AM Class - 2
Units)
Agricultural Technology courses are designed to teach technical
knowledge and skills for entry-level positions in the application of
modern technology in the production of food and fiber. Strategies for
economically using facilities, land, water, machinery, equipment, pest
control, capital, labor, and management in the efficient production of
plant and animal products are applied to relevant, current scenarios.
Typical
instructional activities include hands-on experiences with managing the
appropriate application of major farm inputs and outputs; participating
in personal and community leadership development activities; planning
and implementing a relevant school-to-work transition experience; and
participating in FFA activities.

Introduction to Horticulture
(PM Class - 2 Units)
The
courses in Introduction to Horticulture include organized subject matter
and practical experiences related to the culture of plants used
principally for ornamental or aesthetic purposes. Instruction
emphasizes knowledge and understanding of the importance of
establishing, maintaining, and managing ornamental horticulture
enterprises.
Typical instructional activities include hands-on experiences with
propagating, growing, establishing, and maintaining nursery plants and
greenhouse crops; tissue culture techniques; designing landscapes;
preparing designs; sales analysis and management; participating in
personal and community leadership development activities; planning and
implementing a relevant school-to-work transition experience; and
participating in FFA activities.
This is a list of core competencies to be completed in two years by all
students enrolled in these courses. The teacher may select additional
competencies based on a local needs assessment. |
